Temple of Literature Quoc Tu Giam is the first university in Vietnam that is preserved and welcomes visitors right in Hanoi. Traveling to the capital cannot help visiting this monument.
Historical Temple of Literature Quoc Tu Giam  is located at 58 Quoc Tu Giam, Dong Da District, Hanoi. Populations of up to 54,331m2 include Minh Duong lake, Giam garden and Noi Tu. 4 sides Van Mieu overlooking 4 streets: Nguyen Thai Hoc, Quoc Tu Giam, Ton Duc Thang and Van Mieu.
To reach the Temple of Literature, visitors can take the inner city bus routes such as 02, 23, 38, 25, 41. Or if using a personal vehicle, from Ho Guom, take Le Thai To Street, turn right to Trang Street Thi, go to Cua Nam and Nguyen Khuyen streets, then turn left to Van Mieu street and come.

History of the Temple of Literature and Quoc Tu Giam

The Temple of Literature was built in 1070 under King Ly Thanh Tong. If the building was originally built for the purpose of being a place of worship of the saints and masters of Confucianism such as Confucius, Zhou Gong and the four masters and the king's study place, in 1076, Quoc Tu Giam was founded next to become the first university of Vietnam, dedicated to the son and noble families. 
In 1253 (the reign of King Tran Thai Tong), Quoc Tu Giam was renamed the National Academy and accepted the children of ordinary civilians with excellent academic ability. 
During the reign of King Le Thanh Tong, at  Van Mieu Quoc Tu Giam  began to have beer of those who passed the doctorate. 
The great turning point took place in early 1947, when the French bombarded the place with only 2 columns and 4 pieces left, made of stone. Later thanks to renovations and rebuilds and buildings look like today. The current function is mainly to worship Confucius & Chu Van An - the first principal of this school.

Overall architecture

The current complex of Van Mieu - Quoc Tu Giam relics  is located on a 54331 m2 site, including many exquisite small architectural works. The monument is designed according to the posted layout for each zone, the architectural style of the early Nguyen Dynasty is clearly shown. The campus is surrounded by mallet bricks, in front of the large gate is a four-pillar that separates the work from the noise and hustle outside life.
In general, the Literature Temple consists of many different sections such as Ho Van, Van Mieu Mon, Dai Trung Mon, Khue Van Cac, Thien Quang Well, Doctor of Dr, Dai Thanh Mon and Thai Hoc. Teachers in the east and west have two rows of 14 rooms. The dormitory for students of the three dormitories are three blocks with 25 rooms each and 2 students each.
Ho Van Chuong (Thai Ho) is located in front of the Temple of Literature. The Temple of Literature is built in the style of Tam Quan, on which there are three words "Temple of Literature" in ancient Chinese characters. Internal area is divided into 5 distinct areas and connected by 1 main door, 2 auxiliary doors on both sides.

- The second area:  Khue Van Cac is the second stop, this is a symbol of Hanoi history and tourism. The unique construction architecture has a small ancient form of 4 square pillars below supporting the upper floor, with beautiful wooden structures. Upstairs there are 4 round doors, convenient railing and simple wooden roof supporters. Double-layer tiled roofs form an 8-roofed building, roof edges and flat roof surface.
